Secret Place Poem

You see it Everyday no matter what.
It smells gross like salt, dirt and dirty boys.
You can’t taste it because it’s way too big and your mouth is to small.
You hear talking, screaming, and running.
You feel it under your feet when you walk in and out!

Poetry Experience Paragraph

I'm really happy that we are going in to poetry this week. I've never really learned about poetry but I have written poetry on my own. I've never studied poetry because I thought it comes from your heart. I always read poetry for fun especially Dr. Seuss’s book “Green Eggs and ham”. I hope to learn a lot from the poetry lesson this week. I hope to learn all the correct and proper ways to write poetry. I hope to learn the true and powerful meaning of poetry. I hope to write an amazing poem that will touch someone’s heart in an amazing way!

Symbolism and Allegory Unit Reflection

For the last few days in Ms. Priester’s English class we have been learning about Allegory and symbolism. One way I've learned about symbolism is reading the story "The Skull and the Arrow".  Another way is by working with a partner in class helping me study and go over it. My favorite assignment of allegory and symbolism would be reading "The Skull and the Arrow". The story grabbed my attention when I first read it. It had a great meaning to it. Symbolism and allegory have changed my thinking a lot. I never knew what they meant but now that I do I will understand a lot more things.

“The Skull and the Arrow” In the Cave

If I were beaten badly with a gash on my head, left for dead and had to find my way to shelter in the rain like the man in Louis L’Amour’s story, “The Skull and the Arrow,” I would just lay there and die. I would not try to do anything because I already have a cut that’s bleeding on my head, it’s raining and I could get sick, there’s no food for me to eat, I don’t really know where I am, there’s wild animals roaming around every. I would just lay there and starve, bleed and freeze to death. There would be no point in trying.

Symbolism in “The Skull and the Arrow” Underdog Paragraph

When I was in eighth grade, I had horrible grades. My GPA was a 0.0. I thought I was going to have to repeat the eighth grade. In order for me to pass on to my next grade, I had to completely change the way I viewed school. I started to study, turn in all my work, and focus in class.  Then my grades began to rise like the sun in the morning. No one thought I would be able to do with grades like that but I proved them wrong and graduated with a 3.8. I felt good to show people I’m able to succeed!!!!!!!!!!

"The Grandfather" My Tree Trunk Paragraph

Like the narrator in "The Grandfather" by Gary Soto I consider Maria to be my family. She's like my sister. Maria’s family to me because she makes me feel comfortable and safe when I’m around her. Maria gives me strength when I’m feeling down or whenever I have a problem. Maria always tells me to me to believe in my self and to follow my dreams. I depend on Maria when I’m sad. I expect her to be there. A tree symbolizes family because each branch represents a family member and each leaf represent a child.  Branch may break off but with the right amount of water and sunshine it will grow back!

“The Grandfather” Three Meanings of the Tree Paragraph

The symbolic item in “The Grandfather” By Gary Soto is the avocado tree.
The avocado tree represents the grandfather’s family. The narrator represents the tree as the grandfather. The grandfather worked hard and took care of his family. Each branch represents a family member. Each avocado that grew represented a new member to the family. ‘‘It grew, as did my family”. Families are like trees in many different ways. The all stick together and grow as a family. The storm may always try to knock the tree down but in the end it will continue to stand. A branch may fall off but a new one will always grow back.

“The Grandfather” Symbol of My Significant Person

My significant person is Tia Moore and the item that symbolizes her is a flower. Tia symbolizes a flower to me because she makes me think of all the beautiful things, and people in the world. To me  Tia is very bright; she has a lot of different sides, and she always puts a smile on my face. (also because I love flowers.) Tia isn’t my really mom but she makes me feel like I’m one of her kids. I really enjoy Tia being around. Whenever she walks in a room it fills with love. She’s a beautiful flower that continues to grow and I appreciate that!

. “The Grandfather” Important Person Paragraph

A person who means a great deal to me is Tia Moore. I choose Tia because shes awesome . Shes like my symbol of peace. I can talk to her about anything. She’s always there when I need someone to talk too.

Tia and I understand each other. I know she has to work and she knows I have school and we both may struggle at times but at the end of the day she makes me happy.
Tia’s important to me because she knows how it is for a foster kid like us. Her students may struggle in school, Have problems with friends, she knows all about it but she dosen't judge us about that. She looks at all the beauty we have on the inside. She really cares about how we feel and what we have to say and not a lot of people care what kids have to say and I thank her for that.
My current relationship with Tia is the same. I talk to her when I need her or just need someone to talk to.

House Symbol

Smile now Cry later symbolizes   my house which is (girls 3).To most people it means put a smile over all your pain and keep on going. To us it means there will be times where we cry and times where we laugh because no one in our house is perfect and there will be times where we all make a mistake. Our house is just like any other house on campus. We will have problems from time to time just like any other house this campus boy’s side or girls side.

He's sooo Gorgeous!!

Third Quarter Goals

Reflection and Goal setting Activity
My biggest accomplishment from 2010 was graduating 8th grade with a 3.8.
I had to stop playing around and being the class clown and work hard. I want to be the first one from my family to graduate high school with my diploma.
This semester I would like to get all my work done on time and have it at grade level. In order to do this I will push myself very hard to make it come true.
·         I will do homework during study hour.
·         I will focus in class instead of playing with other peers.
·         I will turn in all my homework on its due date.

'My Most Memorable Day of Vacation"

My most memorable day of vacation was Christmas day. It was six o clock in the morning  and my family was knocking on the door to wake me up to open presents. I jumped up out of bed to open the door and my aunt and my two cousins were at the door.
It was around six thirty and we started to open presents. I got six pairs of jeans, three pairs of jewelry, two dresses, a pair of boots,  two shirts, a nail set, an iPod nano touch, a Victoria secret set of perfume, toms, more jewelry, bath and body works sweet pea set, way too many purses to count, more cloths, two picture frames, a Nicole lee wallet, and a bike. Wow I got a lot of stuff.
My younger sister started to open her presents and this year I finally bought her something so I was excited for her to open the gift I bought her. I got her name plate that says her name (Lovely) on it with a pair of earrings that say love on the inside of them. I was really happy to see her face when she opened her gift. It made me feel like a good big sister.
I didn’t have enough money to buy everyone something so I just bought my sister something. I went and took her to get her nails done two days before Christmas. She really enjoyed the foot massage.
I felt really good on Christmas day. There are a lot of people who don’t get be with their family on Christmas so I was really grateful and thankful.  Around four o clock we ate Ham, potato salad, greens, green beans, crab salad, and turkey. We had a great feast.
Around seven o'clock everyone started to go home. This year 2010 was the best christmas Iv'e had so far.
