Irony And ambiguity Notes



Irony:
The difference between what the readers expect or what seems suitable and the reality of what happens in reality.


Tips:Often comic
readers appreciate it, Because it is true.

Three main types: Verbal, situational, and dramatic.


Visual Clues: Draw something to help you remember the definition.


Types Of Irony
Verbal: Someone says one thing but means the opposite.
examples: “Nice day for a picnic!” when it’s raining
“You Sure can pick them” To his friend who finished last.


Types of irony: situational
what actually happens is the opposite of what is expected or appropriate.

Traits:
plays with people’s expectations
cuts deeply into the readers feelings
commonly used in literature


Examples:
A woman doesn’t wan to go to a party but ends up meeting her husband there
A cop gets a ticket, hes a enforcement officer.


Type of Irony; Dramatic
Def. Audience know whats in store for the character but eh character does not know.
Tips: often occur in movie and plays mimics life because its unpredictable.

dramatic Irony examples:
crooks enter a house that the audience knows its a booby trap.
Audience know that the wolf has taken the place of little red grandma

"The lady or the Tiger?" Justice system

I would rather be tried under our justice system If I were a cussed for a crime. I would want to be seen by a judge because I could get a lawyer to help me prove my case wrong or right and I would be able to tell my side of the story or situation in my own words. I would not want a king deciding my punishment for my consequence. It’s not really fair to pick a door and behind one of the doors there’s a tiger and behind the other there’s a lady. What if I picked the tiger and I was innocent? What if I picked the lady and I was guilty? That isn’t a good system. People deserve a consequence for there crimes and justice for there innocents. The united states justice system is okay. It could be better.

"What I learned in English 9/10 second quarter".

I’ve learned a lot in 9^th grade English. I’ve moved around a lot in my schools years. I’ve been to 12 different schools while I was in elementary school and middle school, so being able to stay in one school setting during high school I’ve learned a lot so far. Our world is going in to technology now and since I’ve been in Ms. Priester’s class I’ve learned how to post blogs on blogger, do a power point and so many other amazing things. English may get hard at certain points and time but I just remember in the end it will all payoff!   

" The lady or the Tiger?" Which door?

In the story the lady or the Tiger the Man got accused of falling in love with the kings daughter.  They were in love with each other, but the king couldn’t know. The king found out and the man got  in trouble and had to go to the  arena  for his trial. In the arena two doors. Behind one door there’s a tiger and behind the other there’s a woman. If the man chooses the door with tiger behind it he is guilty and will be eaten by the tiger. If he chooses the one with the women he will marry her and walk away innocent. The kings’ daughter made an arm movement telling the man which door to pick. I think he opened the door with the tiger because the princess would be very upset if her lover had to marry another. She would rather see the one she loves dead than with someone else.

Shop till you drop extra credit

Shop till you drop! Shop till you drop was amazing! I got to take pictures with my house parents and former house mates. I also got to walk around and pick out some cloths that I like. (That’s my favorite part.) I also won a bike and got an I pod nano!

I also got to talk to staff and a couple of friends before the event was over. Shop till you drop was awesome and I love when the friends of san Pasqual comes and does things like that for us. It makes most of us feel loved! I really appreciate when the friends of san Pasqual come!

" The gift Of Magi" My most genorous gift

Two years ago on Christmas I gave my mom a Picture frame. I gave her a picture frame because she could keep all the cool and great memories of us or our family to keep. My mom was really excited and happy to have it. She had tears of joy swelled up in her eyes. That was my favorite Christmas because not only did I receive but I also gave. It made my heart feel really warm and nice on the inside. Every year

I try to give more to friends and family because it makes me feel like a good person!

"The Gift Of Magi" The Suprise Ending.

When I finished reading "The Gift of Magi" I felt amazed. I felt amazed because this story shows you what people will do for love. When Della cut off some of her hair to buy Jim a chain for his watch it showed that she would do anything for her husband to show that she loved him.
Jim sold his watch to by fancy combs for Della’s long hair showed how much he loves and cares for her.
The conclusion of the story is that if you love someone dearly you would give up everything and that’s basically what Jim and Della did!

The gift of Magi" The Item I'd Save".

I would save my phone because I would still be able to contact family and friends.
I would still be able to use face book. Also because it’s my favorite item and I would be sad if she got hurt! I know it sounds crazy that I would choose my phone but it’s mine and I treat it like it my own child! When I become an adult, I hope I use my phone to make a lot of business calls and to  reach out to my clients when I become very successful in life. ( I want to be a therapist)

Students should not be able to play sports if they have low grades

Students shouldn't be allowed to play sports if they have bad grades. Instead of students focusing in the game, they should focus in their books. Most of our campus is on two hour because they don't do their homework or pay attention in class. Instead of going to practice they should be at home studying. In the  long run school will get you far in life. so an get you scholarship to collage and so on but if you don't know how to read,write,or do math you will fail collage horribly. Most people think that if you play a sport it will get you far in life but honestly it won't. Maybe physically, but mentally  You will end up Illiterate.

If i had to choose between school and friends, I would honestly choose school becase school will help me out in the long run. School will help me get a job, get a great job! And also be educated.
 If I were not to choose school, I would probly drop out of school, be homeless with no friends.
It's most important to stay in school because it can really help you in the future to get into a great collage! like Prinston University, Harvard University and so on! School is the most important thing in live!

spa fun day

On Friday we watched a movie called "The Freedom Writers". The movie was awsome. I like that it was about how kids our age became something of their selfs even though they where failing some of their subjects they brought their grades up!

We also played a few games against our classes. Basketball,volleyball,and and a cupcake eating contest! Of course the Juniors won in volleyball!

In Spa there are a few trouble students but that dosen't mean they can't change their ways.

" I remember  when Genonna dressed up as a pink hello kitty. She looked really nice.She was a little scared because it was her first Halloween. She went out and had a great time trick or treating with her friends. She took pictures, went out for dinner just had a great time. Rumor has it, It was her favorite Halloween

My wife dosent like the things she have. i dust dosent. i dont know why. she wants the most exspencive things. like jewlery money and evening cloths.

A time when I thought the grass was greener on the other side is when I was at Catc.
I hated living there. There was so much drama and stealing going on. All the girls there talked about foster homes and San Pasqual Academy.
My brother use to stay in spa. He told me it was a good place for me to go. So I begged and begged my social worker to let me go. Finally they let me go. When I got here. I though it was amazing. I was here for not even two weeks and the drama came. I noticed it was just like catc. Every where you go theres gona be problems.

Yawn!" To day is gona be a good day" I said. As I got up got cleaned grabed a pop tart and started my day to school. I walked into Ms. Priesters class 0n a nice Tuesday morning. The sun was shining,The birds were chirping,and the sky was smiling. I had a feeling it was going to be a wonderful day.
As I walked  into the class room all of a sudden I feel a WHAM in the side of my head. I looked at Ms. Priester to if she was gona say anything. Alright kids take out your work books. As i walked to my seat I saw Griselda laughing. I thought maybe she did it. I sat in my seat waiting for blogger to load then all of a suden I feel another Wham. I turn around and Griselda is laughing agin.

 I raised my hand and Ms. Prister shouted "PUT YOUR HAND DOWN"!!! I was terrfied.
I put my head down on my desk  for a little while until my head ache went away. As I sat up I saw a kick out form  on my desk filled out already. I was furious With my teacher.

"Hahahahaha"! Griselda to me as I was walking out the door. HEY. Yelled Kai. Thats not fair. Kai was the most quietest in the class so I was suprised to here here talk. "She threw an papper air plane at her twice and you kick her out"? I was happy Kai was on my side but it did'nt help. Ms. grummpy old Prister gave all three of us a kick out for disturbing her class.

Reaching Adult Hood

When kids grow up they face many diffrent challenges. They face puberty,drugs,alchol,ect. Their parents pressure them about hygien. For exsample. My cousin has hair under his arm and my aunt tells him bto shave it off. Parents complain to you about bills and how expensive kids are and how your gona have to pay a morgage and medical bills. Or if you get an apartment you'll have to pay rent every mounth, and pay for food and water,and electricity ohh and dont forget about your car note. Ahhh. they will drive you crazy. Sometimes I wish I could stay young forever so I wouldn't have do all that.

MY GRADE

I honestly think my grade should atleast be a B. I think there may be times when I lack in Ms. Priesters class but I will always try my best. I love blogger. I think it saves a lot of paper. But I also think at times blogger may be a little boring.(sorry Ms. Priester)  I will continue to try hard in everything that I do in Ms. Priesters class no matter what it takes.  I plan to be the first out of my family to graduate from high school and collage. No matter what it takes I will make that come true. thats my goal.Thanks for listening to my input.

I was turning the corner by toms liquor store and this little dirty rascal tried to steal my pocket book. I took him down to the grown and kicked him in the behind. I asked him hes name and he said Roger. His face was dirty as the day is long. I asked him why he tried to take my pocket book and he said "because i wanted some blue suede shoes". I took home feed him dinner and gave him ten dollars. I wont let anyone push me around.

9/11

Its was a tuesdays morning. I was about five years old. My mom was crying. I was young so I didnt know what was going on. My mom had the news on all morning. She had told me that" two men got on a plan and told the pilots to crash in to the twin towers in New york City." She also told me most of the people died. I asked her why was she crying. She told me it was because my aunt was
supose to be on that plane. She was very happy she didnt get on that flight. The 9/11 tragedy  brought my family close together. We say I love you to one another all the time because you never know when your gona die.

AUGUST

One hot summer day in the land of SPA, there once lived a girl named August. August was a nice young lady. Agust had to FOCUS on school and family. August had a lost of stress on her sholders dealing with school but she always seemed to stay POSITIVE. Her family complaines to her about everything."My tea is to hot." said her mother. "I hate living here. its too small." said her sister. August got tired of all the complaining and raised her VOICE. "SHUT UP WITH ALL YOUR COMPLAINING. I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO THEN TO SIT HERE AND LISTEN TO THIS." August felt bad for what she did. She sat down and talked to her family and let them know that her ROLE in the family was to big. She didnt want her family to depend on her. After her talk with her family life became SIGNIFICANT. August graduated from collage and her family became very independent.

Bird in the Orange Grove

 There once lived a bird named Ted. Ted  lived in a little town called SPA. Ted hated it there. Everyone bullied him because he was so small. Ted got tired of everyone pushing him around and decided to move across the street to the Orange Groves. Ted loved his new place. He had a threre bedroom apartment with two bathrooms. He was living the good life! About a year later Ted got a call. His mother was  sick. Ted decided since he has three bedrooms his mother could have one. The next day his mother moved in. Ted was enjoying life to the fullest until one day he got a letter saying" You have one day to pack all your belongings and leave". Ted didnt know what to do. His mother cried the rest of the night. The next mornig as ted and his mother were packing, he heared a big BRRRRRR sound outside. He opened the door and there stood a huge tractor in front of him. Ted was very upset. Ted and his mother countinued packing and left. No one has heared from Ted and his mother since.
